Ola Cab’s electric vehicle arm, Ola Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd., planned to recruit around 2,000 people globally. The company aims to build electric vehicles across segments and developing battery as a service or BaaS applications for shared mobility.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder and CEO of Ola Cabs in an email on Tuesday, said to employees that Ola aims to build electric vehicles across segments and for that it would recruit 1,000 engineers globally, over the next quarter and 1,000 people across other roles.
Ola Electric also has acquired Etergo BV, Amsterdam-based an electric scooter startup earlier in May, which gave access to Ola over Etergo’s technology of swapping high energy density batteries in electric scooters and, Ola Electric is working on launching its first product soon, which would be an electric scooter.
Due to the fall in demand for shared mobility services in May, the company has fired 1,400 people because of the nationwide lockdown. Aggarwal added that there would be a restructuring of organization which aims Ola Electric to be into a global engineering organization.
Earlier this month, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had issued an order in an attempt to boost the adoption of electric vehicles, that will allow sales and registrations of EVs without the batteries which account for 40% of the total vehicle cost. The move will help to accelerate and benefit the battery-swap models of firms like Ola Electric, Sun Mobility, and others.
