The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has registered a 25 percent increase in active investors with the Western region, records the highest growth of 32 percent in cash market participation.
NSE said in a statement that the participation of retail investors from Maharashtra that are actively trading in the equity market has increased 38 percent in the last one year.
There are around 2.5 crore registered clients across the exchanges, it said.
According to the preliminary data, Maharashtra has recorded the highest increase in active retail clients. The total number of retail clients traded last year increased 38 percent on the NSE. However in value terms, Gujarat topped the chart and reported the highest jump of over 50 percent, it said.
Not only in the number of people participating, in value terms also, Maharashtra remains the highest volume contributor in the cash segment, the average turnover of which rose to a new high of Rs 18,000 crore a day. Other traditional major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, among others, also continued to grow, NSE said.
