Donald Trump US President and first lady Melania Trump arrived at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. PM Narendra Modi was at the airport to receive the Trumps and greeted the US president with a bear hug and shook hands with Melania and also Vijay Rupani Chief Minister of Gujarat was present at the airport along with his senior, sources said.
India is looking forward to strengthening its strategic partnership with the US during Trump’s visit, with discussions likely to span bilateral, regional topics and global issues such as trade, strategic topics, counterterrorism and the India-Pacific region. During their three-and-a-half-hour stay in Ahmedabad, the US president will visit Sabarmati Ashram, hold a nine-km long roadshow and end his trip with the grand Namaste Trump event at Motera Stadium. PM Modi should use the occasion to talk business with his guest by conveying some relevant facts. Among the top 10 countries which includes Ireland and Malaysia, with which the US runs trade deficits. The Trump government’s aggressive stance seems to be guided by a belief that trade is more consequential for India than the US. The latter is the second-largest trading partner of the former, but India comes a distant eighth among the US’s largest trading partners.
