The parts of US government is heading towards shutting down for the third time this year when on Saturday a bipartisan spending deal collapsed over the funding of border wall between US and Mexico. President Donald Trump has been demanding at least US$ 5 billion in funding be included in any deal in order to get approved by him.
In the absence of an agreement, funding for about a quarter of all US federal agencies such as departments of Homeland Security, Transportation, Agriculture, State, and Justice will begin to shut down at Saturday midnight. Due to the partial shutdown, a large number of federal employees either have to do unpaid work or be put on temporary leave till the holiday season start.
President Donald Trump accused the Senate Democrats and tweeted, “The Democrats now own the shutdown!” Earlier President Trump tweeted, “The Democrats, whose votes we need in the Senate, will probably vote against Border Security and the Wall even though they know it is DESPERATELY NEEDED. If the Dems vote no, there will be a shutdown that will last for a very long time. People don’t want Open Borders and Crime!”
According to reports, the nine departments that will shut down early Dec. 22 represent about a quarter of the US$1.24 trillion in government spending for the fiscal year 2019.
