The Trump administration is working towards changing the foreign worker visa program, known as H1-B Visa, to add a direct pathway to the citizenship.
US President Donald Trump tweeted, “H1-B holders in the United States can rest assured that changes are soon coming which will bring both simplicity and certainty to your stay, including a potential path to citizenship. We want to encourage talented and highly skilled people to pursue career options in the U.S.”
The H1-B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire non-US-citizens skilled workers for various occupations, has been under Trump’s radar since the beginning. Trump has already proposed few changes to the H1-B visa program in the past from change in admission criteria, minimum wage to cap limit.
The tweet from President Trump came during the ongoing partial federal government shutdown in the United States, due to the US president’s demand for US$ 5.7 billion budget to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Because of the refusal by the US President to sign off budget which lacked US$ 5.7 Billion for funding the wall, the US government has gone into the longest shutdown in history beating the previous record of 21 days.
