US based subsidiary of Sun Pharma, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Inc (SPII) has voluntarily recalled 2 lots of diabetes drug Riomet, due to microbial contamination.
Riomet is suggested for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult and children of age 10 and above. The contaminated Riomet if used, could possibly result in a risk of infection, specially in the patient with weak immune system.
Further, as per Sun Pharma, the Riomet has been found to be contaminated with microbe, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis. The contamination was found during sample preparation for the antimicrobial preservative effectiveness testing (AMPET) being performed as part of the 12 month stability study interval.
