After a volatile day, the market ended with positive levels. Sensex was up 373.62 points or 1.4 per cent at 27251.10 as well as Nifty also ended on a positive note with 108.50 points up or 1.3 per cent at 8235.45.
The BSE Sensex had climbed over 400 points in the early trade, but gave up entire gains and slipped in the red after the announcement of global investment bank HSBC of downgrading Indian equities to “underweight” from overweight.
The banking sector surged through out the day with the big gainers like Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI and GAIL and BHEL were other top gainers in Sensex whereas Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Vedanta and Bajaj Auto were amongst the loosers.
