Indian Nationals working in the US get relief, the proposed ban on H-4 EAD (employment authorization document) has been delayed. The H-4 visa is issued to dependent family members such as spouse and children of the H1-B visa holders. Obama administration was allowed the H-4 visa holder to work in the US in 2015. The biggest beneficiaries of the H-4 visa programme is primarily the Indians, the spouses of H1-B visa holders.
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. In the last five years, Indian nationals have received between 67 and 72 per cent of the total H-1B visas issued by the US, said the External Affairs Ministry.
As per the data, in 2018, 125,528 Indian nationals were issued H1-B visas however 129,097 Indian nationals were issued H1-B visas in 2017.
