The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stopped printing the Rs 2,000 currency notes and is not going to bring new notes of that denomination during the current financial year.
The government has bought in the rupee 2000 notes for the purpose of quickly tide over a cash crunch from demonetisation, yet fewer lower value curency in circulation meant people struggled for changing the big denomination bill.
Now, the central bank’s focus is on printing small bills which is aimed at bridging that gap.
