Today, a bill passed by the Parliament makes it compulsory for office NGO bearers to specify their Aadhaar numbers while registering and incorporating numerous additional changes. When eight MPs being suspended caused an opposition boycott of proceedings, the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020 was unanimously passed by the Rajya Sabha.
In further responses about the bill, Home State Minister Nityanand Rai mentioned that the legislation was not opposed to any NGO but rather in the interest, and also focused towards maintaining transparency. Following Monday’s passed bill in Lok Sabha, the President will now receive it for his assent. The minister added in the discussions regarding the provisions that will be made available following the approval, saying that the bill contributes for reduced administrative expenses of any NGO receiving foreign funding, from 50 per cent to 20 per cent of annual funds to ensure spending on their primary objectives.
Other supplies under the proposition of the bill include enabling the Centre to permit an NGO or association to surrender its FCRA certificate.
