Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of the Reliance Industries Ltd forayed into the top 10 richest list globally. According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2019, Mukesh Ambani net worth stood at US$ 54 billion. The global list was topped by the Amazon Inc. founder Jeff Bezos, for the second straight consecutive year.
According to the report, Ambani’s net worth surged to Rs 3.83 lakh crores mainly due to the rally in RIL shares which reached the Rs 8 lakh-crores market capitalisation mark last month. However, as per the same report, the Mukesh younger brother Anil Ambani lost over 65 per cent of his net worth sending him into the oblivion.
The report said that Anil Ambani lost over US$5 billion during the course of seven-year as his net worth reached from US$7 billion to US$ 1.9 billion this year. The Hurun report said, “Having started off similarly after the break-up of the family wealth, Mukesh added $30 billion to his wealth in the past seven years, while Anil has lost over $5 billion during the same period.”
The other Indian billionaires added to the list are Hinduja group chairman SP Hinduja (US$ 21 billion), Wipro chairman Azim Premji (US$ 17 billion), Poonawalla group chairman Cyrus S Poonawalla (US$ 13 billion). The list was then followed by (in order) ArcelorMittal‘s Lakshmi Mittal, Kotak Mahindra’s Uday Kotak, Adani Group’s Gautam Adani and Sun Pharma’s Dilip Shanghvi.
