JSW Steel released a statement which said that its crude steel output grew 8.3 per cent to 14.48 lakh tonnes (LT) in August 2018. According to the company’s filing to BSE, it said its crude steel production stood at 13.37 lakh tonnes in August 2017.
The company said during the last month, the production of flat-rolled products was almost flat at 9.81 lakh tonnes against 9.79 lakh tonnes in August 2017. The output of long rolled products increased 9.7 per cent to 3.05 lakh tonnes against 2.78 lakh tonnes in the same month last year, the company said.
The company’s plant at Vijayanagar in Karnataka is the largest single location steel producing facility in the country with a capacity of 12 MTPA. Recently, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal declared that they are planning to expand the plant to a capacity from 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 18 MTPA.
The company announced its plans to invest Rs 7,500 crore until March 2020 to increase the production capacity at its Vijayanagar facility to 13 MTPA. Jindal said, “Our plan is to take to the next step to 18 MTPA from 13 MTPA.”The company, he said, is planning to spend around Rs 43,000 crore in the next three years in these expansions, besides downstream facilities.
