Classic Legends, the subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Ltd has re-launched, Jawa Motorcycles in India with three new variants—the Jawa, Jawa Forty Two and the Jawa Perak bobber. The forgotten names will re-enter the Indian market after more than 2 decades of oblivion.
The Jawa is priced (ex-showroom, Delhi) at Rs 1.64 lakhs and Jawa Forty Two will retail at Rs 1.55 lakh, whereas the Jawa Perak Bobber will be priced at Rs 1.89 lakh when it hits the roads next year.
Jawa and Jawa Forty Two are both powered by the same single cylinder, 4 strokes, liquid cooled, DOHC, 293cc engine that produces 27bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. Both bikes come mated to a Constant mesh 6-speed gearbox with a twin two exhaust system, shaped like a cigar. The engine is said to be Bharat Stage-VI ready.
The Jawa Perak, which is set to be launched next year, is announced to be powered by a 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that will produce a power of 30bhp and 31Nm torque. All the new Jawa bikes will be made at Mahindra’s plant in Pithampur.
The Classic Legends, owner of Jawa Motorcycles brand, is held by three friends, namely; Anupam Thareja, Anand Mahindra and Boman Rustom Irani. “This whole journey is a sheer result of serendipity, pronoia and that gut feeling,” said Anupam Thareja, who also owns private equity firm Phi Capita.
