Representatives of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), and food aggregators Swiggy, Uber Eats, and Zomato are scheduled to meet the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to discuss continues issues such as cloud kitchens and exclusive tie-ups. The meeting to be held by the committee on e-commerce comes after food aggregators and some restaurants have been at loggerheads, with the latter (represented by the NRAI) pushing online food delivery companies. to bring a more level-playing field to delivery services by reducing steep discounts and adding more transparency to their ordering platforms. Members of the NRAI are expected to give a presentation on the algorithms used by food aggregators on their platforms that help users of their apps discover food outlets, according to the meeting notice.
Also, the committee will hold discussions to substantiate NRAI’s claims that food aggregators promote exclusivity of restaurants on their platform. The meeting comes in the aftermath of the NRAI raising concerns around the terms and conditions followed by aggregators that they claim is hurting business at eateries in India.
