Cisco, a U.S.-based networking telecommunications firm has signed two agreements with the NITI Aayog and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to speed up its Country Digital Acceleration programme in India.
According to a statement from Cisco, “The current set of investments will focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through the Atal Innovation Mission and in developing use cases to showcase the possibilities of 5G in citizen services and application of innovative digital technologies in transportation modernisation.”
The company also said in a statement that the agreement with BSNL with the backing of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is to set up a dedicated location to demonstrate use cases of 5G to solve problems faced by users in areas such as education, healthcare and agriculture using technologies such as Internet of Things, surveillance and artificial intelligence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the chairman of Cisco Systems, Chuck Robbins and tweeted, “Had a wonderful meeting with Mr Chuck Robbins, chairman and CEO of Cisco. We discussed various aspects relating to technology as well as innovation.”
Chuck Robbins also said in a statement, “India is going through a transformational journey, with initiatives like Digital India and Smart Cities helping to power its digital economy.” He further added, ” We are thrilled to collaborate with the NITI Aayog and BSNL to bring greater value to India and its citizens.”
