The Competition Commission of India has dismissed allegations of unfair business practices made against carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) regarding the misuse of an export promotion policy.
It had been alleged that HMIL misused the Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) policy, framed by the DGFT for reducing cost of production compared to its competitors.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), dismissing the complaint, said that the allegations raise issues relating to the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 and the Customs Act, 1962.
It further said that “reliefs sought by the informant (including seeking investigation into the impugned conduct through direction to DRI) do not fall within the ambit of the Commission as provided under the (Competition) Act.”
