Carlos Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan Motor Co Ltd’s claimed that he was innocent as he appeared to the public since his arrest in November. Ghosn told the Tokyo court that he was wrongly accused of financial misconduct.
According to Reuters, Carlos Ghosn said to the Tokyo District Court: “I have been wrongly accused and unfairly detained based on meritless and unsubstantiated accusations.”
Ghosn also added “Contrary to the accusations made by the prosecutors, I never received any compensation from Nissan that was not disclosed, nor did I ever enter into any binding contract with Nissan to be paid a fixed amount that was not disclosed.”
The hearing took place in order to explain the reasoning behind the prolonged detention of Ghosn since his arrest on November 19, as requested by his lawyers. Siting Judge Yuichi Tada declared the charges pressed against Carlos Ghosn and explained that the prolonged detention was due to flight risk and the possibility of concealment or distortion of evidence.
