Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri visit the Air India Express flight crash site at Calicut International Airport. A meeting had taken place at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan including Airports Authority of India, Air Navigation Service members and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) over the crash landing of flight on Friday.
Air India Express flight IX 1344, flying in from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), overshot the runway at the Kozhikode international airport in Kerala last evening around 7.41 pm. The plane is carrying 190 passengers in which at least 18 people including two pilots have lost their lives in the incident and, the four-cabin crew members are found to be safe. The Air India Express said in a statement, “The injured are admitted to the hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode, as per the state government officials.”
In the meeting, DGCA said, “We have started our investigation, Aircraft Accident Investigation BureAU (AAIB) team has reached the crash site.” It is also mentioned that the crash is occurred due to the landing of flight on the wet runway and, as a consequence, it got broke into two pieces.
