Apollo Hospitals said it is ready to administer one million doses of coronavirus vaccine daily, but the government has yet not made it clear how the vaccines will be distributed and whether it will allow private health-care networks to be involved
“We need to know if the government wants to handle the whole thing or allow the private sector to do it,” said Suneeta Reddy, MD, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. “The issue here is how can we double the amount of people that can be vaccinated,” she said that Apollo hospital is ready to help and has trained 6,000 staff so far, across its network of 71 hospitals, hundreds of clinics and thousands of pharmacies. The government “can do it, but it will take time,” she added.
However, if India decides to work with private health-care networks on vaccine distribution then, it would be crucial for the world’s second-worst Covid-19 outbreak to succeed. Bharat Biotech Chairman Krishna Ella on Tuesday said there will be a ‘flood of Covid vaccines’ in the next five to six month period.
India’s largest hospital chain, Apollo through its digital app has been telling clients that the vaccine ‘should be available in 60-120 days’ and they will ‘be the first ones to know about the vaccines.’
