Netflix has laid off some employees, a move that comes after the streaming giant dropped its subscribers for the first time in a decade. Many of the fired employees were writers and editors at Tudum, the official Netflix companion site that launched last December. Most of them are women of colour who were hired only a few months ago, NPR reported.
The fired Netflix employees included a team of 10 to 12 who worked in Tudum’s culture and trends department. Others took to Twitter to vent their anger and find new opportunities.
At least 10 employees were fired on Twitter months after they were hired with promises of more stability. To build Tudum, Netflix hired people who promised big salaries and had no story or traffic goals, The Daily Beast reported. If this sounds too good to be true, many people learned it the hard way.
