NASA to Release Draft For 2nd Moon Lander

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to release a draft request for moon lander concepts for missions that aims to bring astronauts to the moon by the year 2025, the space agency announced on Wednesday.

NASA had also asked SpaceX to propose a lander for ongoing missions beyond Artemis III. But, the space company, which Jeff Bezos backs, rejected NASA’s decision to give its initial lander deal to SpaceX. Bezos’ Blue Origin has declared that it is ready to compete for the project.

NASA’s decision to pursue additional design proposals comes after several US lawmakers had said that the agency needs a second company to land astronauts on the moon. NASA is seeking additional design concepts as part of a plan to have a series of moon landings after Artemis III. The space agency is expected for a moon landing without a crew by the end of 2024.
