Nalco, the state owned aluminium maker has signed an agreement with Chaleico of China for the Research and Development (R&D) cooperation in the fields of mutual interest.
Both companies, under the agreement would separate iron concentrate from red mud and extract gallium from bayer liquor.
T K Chand, Nalco CMD said that “Extraction of marketable iron concentrate from red mud will be our first R&D project with Chaleico. This will be a major step in extracting value out of red mud, which is otherwise treated as an industrial waste.”
He further added that “On successful completion of the project, the efforts will be commercialized through a demonstration plant.”
