Microsoft has fired about 1,000 employees across multiple divisions like the Xbox and the Edge teams. The layoffs affected less than 1 per cent of Microsoft’s last registered workforce of about 221,000. Earlier in July, the US-based tech giant stated that a small number of roles has been and it would increase its employee count down the line.
A statement released by Microsoft informed that the firm had a small number of role eliminations. Similarly to every other company, Google evaluates its business priorities regularly and makes structural adjustments accordingly.
Now Microsoft has joined other major tech companies in slowing global hiring and cutting costs to reflect the global economic slowdown. Several tech companies like Twitter, Meta Platforms, and Snap Inc have cut jobs and stopped hiring in recent months due to the global economic slowdown and rising inflation. Recently, Meta laid off a group of 60 contractors who were reported to be selected at random by an algorithm.
Earlier this year, Snap announced its plan to reduce its headcount by approximately 20 per cent of global employees. Earlier, another report stated that up to 32,000 workers in the US tech industry across Big Tech firms, including Meta and Microsoft, had been sacked off in mass job cuts till late July.
