Maruti Suzuki, on 10 January, announced its plan to invest Rs 35,000 crore to set up its second manufacturing facility in Gujarat as it plans to increase its annual production capacity to over 40 lakh units by 2030-31.
Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, said, “We will invest Rs 35,000 crore for the construction of a second car plant in Gujarat which would produce another one million units per year.”
The new plant is expected to start operation in fiscal year 2028-29, which will increase the annual production capacity in Gujarat. Post commissioning, the annual production capacity in Gujarat will reach 2 lakh units, which includes 10 lakh units produced at Suzuki Motor Gujarat and 10 lakh units produced at the second new plant.
Suzuki added that under strong leadership and consistent support for manufacturing industries from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the Indian automobile market has been expanding steadily. Due to this, India has become the third-largest automobile market in the world.
Toshihiro said, “We have also scaled up production capacity substantially in India. It is noteworthy that as compared to 10 years ago, we expect 1.7 times in vehicle production and 2.6 times in export sales in the current fiscal year.”
