On Wednesday, the world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn, released its Top 25 Indian Startups List for 2023. The list is an annual ranking of the top 20 up-and-coming companies across various industries formulated using unique and extensive data from LinkedIn’s 950+ million users.
The startups are ranked across four key areas – employee growth, jobseeker interest, member engagement within the company and its employees, and how well these startups have pulled talent. According to the Head of Editorial at LinkedIn India, Nirajita Banerjee, 14 of the 20 startups are new entrants.
The quick e-commerce platform Zepto secured the top position on the list. Founded in 2021, the startup emerged as India’s first unicorn in 2023 with the closure of a $200 million Series E round in August. The grocery delivery app was ranked 4th on the list last year.
BluSmart is in the second spot and has been on the list for three years in a row. It is India’s first electric ride-sharing company. Another electric vehicle (EV) startup, Exponent Energy, debuted on the list at the fifteenth position.
Fintech startups continue to dominate the Top Startups list, with four entries this time, reflecting the sector’s resilience. Ditto Insurance stands in the third position, followed by Fi at the seventh rank, Jar in the eleventh, and StockGro at the fourteenth.
Another prominent industry, with startups like GrowthSchool (10th position), Teachnook (13th position) and AccioJob (17th position), on the list is Edtech. Their presence reflects the continued demand for upskilling among professionals and students amid the rapid changes due to technologies such as AI.
