Shares of Larsen and Toubro Ltd were trading almost 2% higher on 6 February after the company announced securing a large project to construct a bridge.
In its regulatory filing, the company said that the transportation infrastructure business of L&T Construction had secured a project contract from the Public Works Roads Department (PwRD), Assam, to construct the Palashbari to Sualkuchi cable-stayed bridge across the river Brahmaputra in Assam.
According to the filing, the contract worth falls in the large orders category that ranges between Rs 2,500 to 5,000 crore and has to be completed in a period of four years.
The bridge will be 12.21 kilometres long and will directly connect the towns of Sualkuchi and Palashbari.
Sualkuchi is one of the world’s largest weaving centres where Assam’s traditional garments are made with the help of indigenous materials such as golden silk and Muga, which is only produced in Assam.
Furthermore, the bridge will also directly connect Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Assam.
At 1:10 pm, Larsen and Toubro shares were trading 1.65% higher at Rs 3,397 on NSE.
