Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on 4 October announced that its power business arm had secured an order worth around Rs 2,500 crore from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd.

The company did not disclose the proper contract value but mentioned that it falls under the “significant” category that ranges between Rs 1,000 – 2,500 crore, as per its classification of contracts.

The order is for the setting up of wet Flue Gas Desulphurization systems for its Thermal Power Plant at Sagardighi in the state of West Bengal. Also, it includes Engineering, Procurement, and Construction.

Flue Gas Desulphurization systems installation in the existing and upcoming thermal power plants has been made mandatory by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, to curtail SO2 emissions.

This will be the company’s first Flue Gas Desulphurization project from a state-owned power utility.

The installation of Flue Gas Desulphurization systems projects for thermal plants totalling more than 19 gigawatts, which actively contributes to the government’s initiative of reducing SO2 emissions.
