The Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has invested Rs 15 crore in Transition VC, India’s first venture capital fund dedicated to energy transition, as part of the state’s efforts to promote energy independence and sustainability.

The objective of the funding is to enhance the growth of clean energy and decarbonisation focused startups, thereby aligning with Kerala’s vision of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2040 and net carbon neutrality by 2050.

The partnership between KSUM and Transition VC will provide financial support and mentorship to deep-tech startups focused on energy transition solutions, as stated by KSUM.

Additionally, the partnership will give these startups access to global networks and expertise through Transition VC.

Raiyaan Shingati, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Transition VC, emphasised the importance of the partnership, stating that the Rs 15 crore investment is a significant step toward accelerating Kerala’s energy transition.

Shingati expressed confidence that this collaboration will foster innovation and position Kerala as a leader in renewable energy adoption.

KSUM CEO Anoop P Ambika noted that the investment is a crucial part of Kerala’s sustainability strategy, highlighting the importance of financial and strategic support for energy transition startups at both local and national levels.

Kerala has been advancing considerably in its sustainability initiatives as can be seen with the coming hydrogen valley projects in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, along with the plans to increase solar and wind energy projects.

These projects are in line with the plans of Transition VC which targets 40 million tonnes of carbon emissions reductions, attributed to investments geared at the energy transition sector.

The collaboration with Transition VC seeks to utilise Kerala’s natural resources, such as its tropical climate and extensive coastline, to explore hydrogen production and promote clean energy initiatives across various industries.
