Reliance Jio, India’s biggest telecom operator, is planning to launch a new fixed wireless access (FWA) called Jio AirFiber after its biggest competitor Airtel introduced Xtream AirFiber earlier this month.
The Mukesh-Ambani-led Jio Telecommunication is set to launch its device during the festive season and will be launched at a discounted price of up to 20% less than its competitors.
The company is expected to hear about this during its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is traditionally used to launch new products with big bang offers.
Airtel’s Xstream AirFiber was launched with a price tag of Rs 2,500 and a 6-month plan of Rs 4,435.
The Jio AirFiber will use different 5G airwaves that are acquired by the company, including 700 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz.
Jio has also started testing its devices in some cities where it has fully functional 5G services. The company has reportedly provided devices to some select users, including some of its employees, for testing.
The company has already installed an FWA device for its enterprise use that uses the 26 GHz band.
