Reliance Jio now can be named as India’s first telecom operator who offered the 4G Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services on international roaming. The VoLTE-based inbound international roaming will be offered to Jio customers from the countries that have an infrastructure in place to support HD/ VoLTE calls via their respective carriers.
KDDI Corporation, Japan-based telecom operator is the first international mobile service provider to offer VoLTE network support on Jio while travelling abroad. Similarly, KDDI customers can also access the VoLTE service in India while on International roaming.
Also, Reliance Jio was the first company to introduce the Voice over LTE technology in India. VoLTE services are currently supported in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, UAE, Netherlands, and India.
As per Reliance Jio statement, “Reliance Jio is focused on delivering the best data and voice experience to all of India and those who visit India. We welcome KDDI customers to Jio as the first international VoLTE and HD roaming users in India.”
Reliance Jio, which recently reported a base of 252 million subscribers in the country is the ninth largest mobile carrier in the world in terms of the user base. It stands at the top in the 4G network coverage leaderboard, closely followed by Airtel.
Also, the company’s broadband services, Jio GigaFiber, has been reportedly rolling out in around 29 cities in India, some of which are Jaipur, Indore, Amritsar, Solapur, Ghaziabad, Chandigarh, Allahabad, Nagpur, Ranchi, Faridabad, Patna, Guwahati etc.
