On Tuesday, Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) said it would invest Rs 120 crore in setting up rooftop solar capacities at its Jajpur and Hisar facilities.
While a 21-megawatt peak (MWp) project will be set up in Jajpur, an additional 6 MWp rooftop solar capacity will be fixed at the company’s unit in Hisar, JSL said.
”The two rooftop solar plants will be producing about 795 million units of electricity, with a carbon reduction potential of 5,64,450 tones in 25 years,” it said.
The company said both projects will be completed by March 2024, adding that the energy produced will be for captive usage. JSL managing director Abhyuday Jindal said,” This is a significant step towards accomplishing our net-zero targets. Our assurance is responsible business practices and enthusiasm to reduce carbon footprint. We will endure this practice.”
The company’s Hisar unit has previously commissioned rooftop solar projects of 4.1 MWp, producing 110.7 million units of electricity and plummeting 78,597 tons of CO2 emissions. The statement added that in 2021-22, the company abridged its carbon emissions by 1.4 lakh tonnes.
