Jakson Green Secures NTPC Order For Setting Up Ethanol Plant

The plant has been conceptualised and designed by the research and development arm of NTPC.

Jakson Green announced on 19 June that they have secured an order from NTPC to commission a plant for producing 4G ethanol from flue gas.

The plant will be located in Lara, Chhattisgarh and will produce 10 tonnes per day of 4G Ethanol from flue gases emitted from power plants. Using latest carbon capture technology, the plant will capture 25 tonner per day CO2 from flue gases that will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The plant will also generate 3 tonnes per day of green hydrogen through a 7.5-megawatt electrolyser.

Flue gases are the emissions that are produced when fossil fuels such as oil, coal, biomass, or natural gas are burned to produce energy in industrial processes or power plants. These gases are released into the air via chimney or flue, thus the name ‘flue gases’.

Kannan Krishnan, Joint Managing Director of Jakson Green Private Limited, said in the statement, “This partnership builds upon the success of our numerous joint projects… Increasing the production of ethanol is crucial to achieving India’s blending goals, strengthening energy security, and fostering a cleaner future.”

The plant has been conceptualised and designed by the research and development arm of NTPC, NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance.

As the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner, the company will spearhead this project, which will be operational in the next two years.
