Iveco Showcases Prototype of Large Hydrogen Van, Developed Jointly with Hyundai

On Monday, Italy’s Iveco showcased a prototype of the hydrogen-powered eDaily large van. This van has been developed jointly with Hyundai Motor. In March, Iveco and Hyundai Motor signed a deal to explore cooperation on shared vehicle technology, mutual supply and joint sourcing.

As per the agreement, Iveco was supposed to equip its future hydrogen-powered buses in Europe with fuel-cell systems designed by Hyundai’s hydrogen mobility brand HTWO. Hydrogen-powered eDaily has a range of 350 kilometres and a maximum payload of 3 tons. It is fitted with Hyundai’s 90 kilowatt (kW) hydrogen fuel cell system and 140 kW e-motor. Iveco’s powertrain unit FPT Industrial provides the vehicle’s battery pack.

It is to be noted that Iveco separated this year from its former parent company CNH Industrial. The former had pledged to develop a full range of zero-emission vehicles. It also has a joint venture with US group Nikola for producing battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks.

Headquartered in the Netherlands, the company added that Hyundai was also seeking sourcing prospects from FPT Industrial in the field of next-generation conventional powertrains for commercial vehicles.
