After losing contact with Vikram Lander now the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) plans and focus n its first human spaceflight mission “Gaganyaan” set for 2021. Meanwhile, addressing students at IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr K Sivan, Chairman ISRO said the first unmanned flight under the mission would be launched by December next year.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) signed MoUs with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to offer technologies for the mission, including space food, survival kits for the crew, radiation protection equipment and parachutes. Also, they plan to send three astronauts to space for seven days onboard Gaganyaan, a crew capsule, to be launched with the help of Geo-Synchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
The mission is a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The mission worth Rs 10,000 crore was approved by the Union Cabinet last year. India becomes the fourth nation to achieve the feat if Gaganyaan becomes successful. Two unmanned flights and one manned flight will be undertaken as part of  Gaganyaan Programme.
For Gaganyaan mission, India has signed agreements for cooperation with Russia and France. Rakesh Sharma, India’s first man in space, who flew aboard the Soyuz T-11, launched on 2 April 1984, was an Indian Air Force pilot.
