A previous tender for hiring a consultant to monetise passenger data was rolled back by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). On August 26, 2022, a top IRCTC officer gave this information to the parliamentary panel headed by Congressman Shashi Tharoor. The train ticketing app published the tender earlier this month, and it sparked controversy due to worries about data privacy and monetisation of customer and passenger data. IRCTC additionally affirmed that it had abandoned the tender.
IRCTC decided to withdraw the tender at the IRCTC annual general meeting on Friday, which was scheduled ahead of the summon in front of the committee.
The parliamentary committee led by a Congress MP also summoned Twitter during this time. The legislative commission, which a Congress MP led, reportedly questioned the microblogging service about its administration and membership.
