On 5 December, Intel and Siemens announced entering into a three-year deal to improve factory efficiency and automation, while focusing on improving energy efficiency and sustainability.
Intel’s global operations chief Keyvan Esfarjani said, “Intel has big plans with our expansions, but we want to make sure that we do that with the utmost focus on efficiencies of natural resources and our commitments to the net zero.”
To compete against industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Intel is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar shift in its manufacturing operations, including a shift towards cutting-edge chip tech that is known as extreme ultraviolet lithography.
He further said that the partnership with Siemens wil help Intel operate its factories more efficiently.
This partnership will also help Siemens deepen its understanding of this type of manufacturing where one technology is so core to the process, and help it in transferring the know-how to other industries. Moreover, other industries are going in this direction.
Siemens has also forged a similar partnership with Mercedes-Benz, wherein Siemens assisted them with its transition to manufacturing electric vehicles from combustion engines.
