Indus Towers reported that Vodafone Idea Ltd. has been making payments matching the monthly billing amount since January 2023. Vodafone Idea has paid Rs 2,328 crore towards outstanding dues, including Rs 1,028 crore for the quarter ending September 2024.

Indus Towers continues to recognize revenue for services provided to Vodafone Idea, with doubtful receivables related to the company at Rs 3,548 crore as of September, down from Rs 5,386 crore in March 2024.

Vodafone Idea must provide bank guarantees from October 2025 to September 2026.

Vodafone Idea, which is debt-ridden, may seek a waiver from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) regarding the payment of required bank guarantees. It is discussing with the DoT a waiver of the bank guarantee, which must be submitted one year before the payment due date for spectrum acquired before 2022.

The moratorium for spectrum auction dues for Vodafone Idea ends in September 2025, and bank guarantees must be submitted at least a year in advance to secure these dues.

Vodafone Idea was scheduled to submit bank guarantees in tranches for different auctions starting on 20th September. The telecom operator must submit over Rs 24,700 crore in bank guarantees to the government in the coming months.

They have approached the government for relief on Rs 70,000 crore in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues after the Supreme Court rejected its petition to correct statutory dues calculations.

As of 30th June 2024, Vodafone Idea’s total payment obligation to the government was Rs 2,09,520 crore, which includes deferred spectrum payments of Rs 1,39,200 crore and AGR liabilities of Rs 70,300 crore.
