As the aviation crisis, primarily created due to pandemics, seems to end, IndiGo expects hopes for better growth. IndiGo’s revenue performance remains strong, and there are good chances of a profitable comeback.
Company’s CEO Ronojoy Dutta believes that the airline has always been good at growth management, crisis management, capacity management and revenue maximisation. In the company’s annual report for FY22 released recently, Dutta said that India is witnessing a strong aviation growth story.
Currently, only 7% of Indians avail of airline services. It is anticipated that there will be a 15-20% annual growth in the upcoming future. The company is assertive about the growth considering India’s huge talent pool, cost leadership, digitised processes and fuel-efficient aircraft.
It is IndiGo’s sixteenth year in airline operations. Over time, it has become the country’s largest airline, with a 57% domestic market share and a fleet of nearly 280 aircraft. The airline employs 26,164 personnel in FY22.
The airline is also getting ready for a change in leadership. Pieter Elbers will be taking charge as CEO, replacing Dutta. The former is perfect for the job with enough experience and a successful career at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, where he developed one of the world’s best brands. Dutta, too believes that he is highly respected and admired by KLM employees.
In July, IndiGo appointed former SEBI chairman M Damodaran as a non-independent non-executive Director. He is also the Director on the Boards of Hero MotoCorp, L&T, Biocon and CRISIL.
