Indian PC Market Grows Up To 3.4 Million Units In Q3 2020

As the demand for E-learning and remote working remained strong, the Indian traditional PC market (inclusive of desktops, notebooks, and workstations) delivered a strong quarter with 9.2 per cent year-over-year (YoY) growth shipping 3.4 million units in the September period, the new IDC report said on Tuesday.
The July-September quarter is the biggest PC quarter in the last seven years in India. Strong demand for notebook PCs will likely lead to strong shipments in Q4, the report noted.
The company recorded a strong quarter in both consumer and commercial segments with a 16.6 percent increase in shipments when compared to the same time a year ago. HP also remained the leader in the consumer segment.
“(About) 3.4 million units (were) shipped during the quarter, as the demand for E-learning and remote working remained strong, resulting in Q3 2020 being the biggest quarter in the last seven years in India,” IDC said.
Although the commercial segment had very few governments and education projects, the consumer segment recorded its biggest quarter ever with 2 million shipments, growing 41.7 per cent year-on-year and 167.2 per cent from the previous quarter, it added.
The demand for notebooks remains much higher than the current supply, which is likely to lead to another strong quarter of shipments in October-December, it said.
HP Inc retained the top position in the overall PC market with a share of 28.2 per cent in the September 2020 quarter, followed by Lenovo (21.7 percent), Dell Technologies (21.3 percent), Acer Group (9.5 per cent), and Asus (7.5 per cent).
