Suella Braverman, an Indian-origin barrister, was named the new Home Secretary of the United Kingdom.

Suella Braverman, an Indian-origin barrister, was named the new Home Secretary of the United Kingdom by Liz Truss, the new British Prime Minister. The latter was elected to the position on Monday by a Tory Party postal ballet. Priti Patel’s coworker Braverman will take over the position.
Braverman served as the Attorney General in the Boris Johnson-led administration while serving as the Conservative Party’s representative for Fareham in southeast England. Along with a select few others, such as Truss and Rishi Sunak, she was one of the first candidates to put her name up to succeed Johnson as the leader and prime minister of the Tories.

Daughter of Hindu Tamil mother Uma and Goan-origin father Christie Fernandes, the 42-year-old Braverman is a mother of two kids. Her father migrated from Kenya in the 1960s, while her mother went from Mauritius to the UK.
According to the BBC, one of Braverman’s first initiatives will be the government’s decision to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda, which has encountered legal issues.

She has been a key member of the Conservatives’ pro-Brexit faction, which seeks a definite separation from Europe and wants to remove the UK from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). “I want to embed the potential of Brexit, straighten up the unresolved difficulties, and cut taxes,” she declared.

Braverman stated that her parents “loved Britain” when discussing them during her campaign for the position of PM in July. It encouraged and offered them safety. This nation gave them a chance. My political stance, in my opinion, is greatly influenced by my background.
She put her support to Truss, who, as Prime Minister, has given her one of the highest offices in the UK government, despite being eliminated from the competition for the position of PM in the second round of the initial voting.
