India and ASEAN represent over a quarter of the world’s population. ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Jaishankar highlighted that India-ASEAN collaboration is essential for tackling climate-related food security issues, health security after global pandemics, and regional political challenges like Myanmar.

He noted that India and ASEAN face urgent concerns in their shared region, including humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and maritime security, where proximity increases the need for swift action.

Jaishankar emphasised a need for a stronger self-help culture between India and ASEAN, rooted in their deep cultural and civilisational ties. He highlighted India’s role in heritage restoration and art conservation.

The India-ASEAN partnership, now in its fourth decade, has strengthened through bilateral and trilateral engagements, such as the Mekong Ganga cooperation and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand growth triangle.

India supports ASEAN’s central role in the evolving Indo-Pacific region and advocates for adherence to international laws and norms, fostering a foundation for ambitious goals.
