The Centre has requested Odisha and its neighbouring states to examine untapped mineral resources to give rising demand and diminish import bills. The mines departments and state PSUs have also been urged to participate in the activity and submit plans for funding, an official release announced. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) presented potential areas for mineral exploration in Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, it said.
The Ministry of Mines organised the event in partnership with the GSI and the Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (MECL). “To meet the increasing demand and to keep the import bill low, there is a need to increase exploration activities,” the statement added.
