Inaugurating Pedestrian-Only Atal Bridge in Gujarat: PM Modi

PM Modi visited Gujarat to launch the iconic, astonishing foot-over Bridge titled ‘Atal Bridge’.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat to launch the iconic, astonishing foot-over Bridge (FOB) titled ‘Atal Bridge’ on the Sabarmati River with a ‘Spectacular’ beauty and LED lighting. Along with this, He would address a congregation at the Khadi Utsav near the Sabarmati Riverfront during his two-day visit, honouring the innovation of the Khadi artisans in India’s freedom struggle. In this grand venture, over 7,500 artisans from Gujarat will be participating in the Khadi Utsav.


“From the same venue, the PM will inaugurate the (FOB), built by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and named after Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” said a state government release. While Tweeting and sharing pictures of the Bridge, PM Modi addressed, “Doesn’t the Atal Bridge look spectacular!”


The Atal Bridge is constructed between the Sardar Bridge and Ellis Bridge. The design is inspired by a kite festival initiated in the city. The Atal Bridge has a striking structure and stunning LED lights. It has a width and length of 14 meters and 300 meters at approximately Rs 74 crore.


The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) approved the Bridge to connect both banks of the Sabarmati River. Though pedestrians are using this Bridge, it can also be used by cyclists to cross the river. The Atal Bridge is designed to be used by people from the upper and lower levels of the river.


On Sunday, the PM will be visiting Bhuj, Gujarat, to attend the memorial dedicated to the martyrs who died due to the overwhelming earthquake that occurred in 2001. The memorial will be a tribute to the region martyrs who showed their bounciness following the disaster, a PMO stated.
