SEMICON India 2024 is a significant semiconductor event held at the India Exposition Mart Ltd. (IEML) in Greater Noida, held from September 11 to September 13, inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. The event emphasised India’s emergence as a global semiconductor powerhouse and addressed industry challenges such as talent shortages, supply chain redesign, and sustainability concerns.

SEMI has launched a Workforce Development Program in India, focusing on collaboration with educational institutions to develop specialized curricula for semiconductor design roles. Additional SEMI programs such as Sustainability and Smart Manufacturing support India’s regulatory policies and aim to attract global investments to strengthen the semiconductor industry.

Representatives from various Indian states showcased their vision and policies to attract investments and drive industry growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the critical role of the semiconductor industry in India’s technological advancement.

Ajit Manocha, SEMI President, highlighted India’s potential to become a semiconductor powerhouse and its need to address workforce shortages through upskilling. Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) CEO Shri Akash Tripathi committed to developing India’s diversified and resilient semiconductor supply chain.

SEMICON India 2024 features over 250 exhibitors, including international leaders, and will focus on smart manufacturing, supply chain management, sustainability, and workforce development. The program included sessions and participation from leading companies discussing advanced packaging, chip design, flexible hybrid electronics, smart manufacturing, smart MedTech, supply chain management, sustainability, and workforce development in the semiconductor industry.

Additionally, parallel sessions will cover the design ecosystem, R&D for advanced packaging, and India’s taxation regime.
