HFCL Wins Order Worth Rs 283 Crore from Gujarat Metro

Under the Center's BharatNet Phase III program, the consortium has submitted bids totalling Rs 6,925 crore.

On Wednesday, domestic telecom equipment maker HFCL said it had won an order worth Rs 282.61 crore from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC). The company will construct the telecommunications system for Phase 1 of the Surat Metro Project within 90 weeks from the contract date.

As part of the project, HFCL will be involved in designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing and commissioning the telecommunication system for Phase 1 of the Surat Metro Project.

“India has the fifth largest metro system in the world and is expected to have soon the third largest network over developed economies such as Japan and South Korea. HFCL is well positioned to expand its rail capacity in India with its proven track record of deploying communications networks for the Mauritius Metro and the recently launched Dhaka Metro project in global markets,” the company said in a statement.

The company recently won the Kanpur-Agra Metro project to integrate communications networks and is currently implementing telecom networks for seven new dedicated freight corridor projects of the Indian Railways. It is also implementing a video management system at 600 railway stations.

HFCL recently partnered with Microsoft to provide private 5G solutions for enterprises. Under the partnership, it has launched a pilot project using its 5G indoor small cells and Microsoft Azure public architecture at its fibre manufacturing plant in Hyderabad. These solutions will primarily detect real-time fibre optic defects using video analytics and image processing.
