Among the major states, Gujarat has topped the NITI Aayog State Energy and Climate Index (SECI) Round 1. This index aims to assess states and union territories based on six criteria: discoms performance, access affordability and reliability of energy, clean energy initiatives, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and new initiatives.
According to the report, the performance of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha has more scope for improvement in terms of clean energy initiatives, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and new initiatives. Goa topped the rating among smaller states, followed by Tripura and Manipur. Punjab was the best performer among larger states regarding income performance parameters, whereas Kerala was the best performer in the access, affordability and reliability categories.
