The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has decided to update the base year for important economic data, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The government aims to complete this update within six to eight months. This update will bring the base year in line with current economic conditions, ensuring that the data accurately reflects the state of the economy.
The government also plans to use the same base year for GDP and CPI data to make it easier to analyze and maintain consistency.
The Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics has been reconstituted to guide these updates. In January 2015, the government updated the base year to 2011-2012 and is now preparing to establish a new base year.
Additionally, the government is committed to transparency and timeliness and will release rural job data quarterly in September. This will keep the public informed about trends in rural employment.
