Google Wallet App Launched in India: Here’s all you need to know

Google emphasised that the complaint was based on misconceptions about Truecaller's privacy practices.

Google has launched its digital wallet application, Google Wallet, in India. The app is available for download from the Google Play Store. Google Wallet offers a secure and private digital wallet where users can store and access their loyalty cards, passes, tickets, keys or IDs.

The app – Google Wallet is designed to complement Google Pay, Google’s mobile payment app, which will continue to serve the payment needs of Indian users.

The Google Wallet app in India does not support payment-related features. Google Pay is an app intended for users to manage their money and finances.

Google Pay supports Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which can be used to add any credit card. Google Wallet, on the other hand, does not support NFC technology in India.

Google has partnered with 20 brands, including PVR & INOX, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Kochi Metro, and Abhibus, to enable the Google Wallet experience in India.

Users can save and access their mobile boarding passes on the Google Wallet app. Google Pixel device users can add their boarding pass to their Google Wallet by simply taking a screenshot and tapping “Add to Google Wallet.” Google Wallet allows users to store and use digital copies of their loyalty and gift cards.

For corporate users, Google Wallet offers integration with corporate badges in partnership with system integrators Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise.

Users can also create new passes in Wallet from images containing barcodes or QR codes, such as airline boarding passes, luggage tags, or parking receipts.

Google Wallet integrates with Gmail, automatically populating the Wallet with relevant information, such as movie bookings or train reservations, provided users have smart personalisation settings enabled in Gmail.

Google Wallet is not a payment app but is tailored for non-payment use cases. It allows users to store essentials like boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, public transport passes, gift cards, and more.
