The Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has overcome French billionaire Bernard Arnault in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, moving up to the third position globally. The top three of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index now include an Asian for the first time.

Only Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos of the United States are ahead of Gautam Adani in the rankings, with fortunes totalling $137.4 billion. He had previously been ranked behind Bernard Arnault of France.

Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault, a French business magnate, also invests in and collects works of art. He is a co-founder, chairman, and CEO of LVMH Mot Hennessy – Louis Vuitton SE, the largest luxury goods company in the world.

The chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd., Mukesh Ambani, ranks eleven with a net worth of $91.9 billion.
The Indian billionaire surpassed Bill Gates last month, surpassing the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation by $230 million, to move up to the fourth-richest position in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Five times more than anyone else, Adani boosted his wealth by $60.9 billion in 2022 alone. In February, he overtook Mukesh Ambani as the richest Asian. In April, he became a millionaire. And last month, he overcame Microsoft Corp.’s Bill Gates to become the fourth-richest person in the world.

Some of the wealthiest US billionaires have enabled Adani to exceed them in wealth, partly due to their recent surge in giving.

Bill Gates announced in July that he would donate $20 billion to the organisation, compared to Warren Buffett’s prior gifts of more than $35 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In addition to increasing his charitable giving, Adani, who turned 60 in June, promised to donate $7.7 billion to assist humanitarian initiatives. He hasn’t yet offered any details.

Adani, 60, has spent the last five years expanding his coal-to-ports conglomerate by entering a number of businesses, such as data centres, cement, media, and alumina. The company currently runs India’s largest private coal miner, city gas distributor, and port and airport operator.
