Foxconn Chairman To Receive Padma Bhushan

The Chairman of Foxconn, Mr Young Liu, received Padma Bhushan on Thursday, 4 July.

The Chairman of Foxconn, Mr Young Liu, received Padma Bhushan on Thursday, 4 July, from the India Taipei Association Director General, Manharsinh Yadav.

Young Liu said that he was set to make a trip to India this year, as his last visit was in July last year, where he attended the Semicon India Conclave and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Liu was conferred Padma Bhushan on the eve of the 75th Republic Day this year, which is the third-highest civilian award.

Young Liu said, “I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of all the fine women and men who work to do our part in growing local economies in India. I look forward to meeting Madam President in India this year.”

Liu’s comments come amidst allegations of discriminatory hiring practices against married women at the company’s factories in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.

The Chairman’s receipt of the Padma Bhushan highlights the government’s recognition of the Taiwanese company’s growing presence in India.

Foxconn is not only expanding its iPhone production facility but is also establishing a chip plant in collaboration with the HCL Group, and is exploring new market segments. According to a report by ET last week, the contract manufacturer, renowned for assembling iPhones, is considering entering the AI server manufacturing sector in India. Additionally, there are reports that the company is preparing to produce Google Pixel phones in the country.
